"Religious education of young children should focus on helping the child to enjoy the relationship with God with deep awareness and great wonder."
The Good Shepherd and the Child: A Joyful Journey
Students in elementary and middle school are invited to join us for religious education classes on Sunday mornings throughout the school year, September thru May. All classes meet in the Nativity School classrooms from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
Students baptized and unbaptized are welcome to join us as we explore the beliefs, teachings and celebrations of the Catholic Church. Our catechists will guide our students each week in prayer and interactive learning through a variety of resources. Parents are welcome to volunteer throughout the year, with the completion of Safe & Sacred training.

We also offer a home-based catechesis model for our families who have trouble making it to the parish every Sunday morning or for families with joint custody. In the event that we enter another quarantine in the winter of 2020 all students will switch over to home-based catechesis. With our home-based model, families are given the same materials as the students in the classroom, but parents are also directed to an additional online resource that will help them teach a particular lesson in the home.

Sacramental Prep for First Reconciliation and First Communion are separate from the Religious Education program. Sacramental prep happens for Nativity students during the school week and non-nativity/religious ed students are taught at home by their parents using the parent guide and student book. Religious Education on Sundays seeks to help the students learn about various aspects of the faith during the course of the year whereas sacramental prep seeks to prepare a student's heart and mind to receive only first reconciliation and first communion.
All parents of students grades 2-8 in the fall of 2020 who have yet to receive these sacraments should visit our Reconciliation & Holy Communion page.
All adults over the age or students over the age of 18 are required to have completed Safe & Sacred training prior to volunteering with young children. Visit our Safe & Sacred page for more information.
